Taesansa is a Buddhist temple on the southern high ground within the Kiyomizu-dera precinct, where people pray for safe childbirth and children. It was founded by Emperor Shomu and Empress Komyo in the Nara period, who prayed for safe childbirth, and the red 15-meter three-story pagoda, Jaan Pagoda, enshrines Jaan Kannon. From the hill opposite the Kiyomizu-dera main hall, the Kiyomizu-dera stage and the city of Kyoto are visible, and it is the 14th site on the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. Pilgrimage stamps are obtained at the Kiyomizu-dera stamp office.
