Kiyomizudera is a Buddhist temple at the end of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka in Kyoto, registered as a Japanese national treasure and a World Cultural Heritage site. Its roof is made of thin layers of pine bark, and the main hall was built with almost no nails. Around 7 a.m., before group tourists arrive, the site is relatively quiet, and tickets are checked at a point along the middle of the path. The uphill mountain path combined with crowds makes physical exertion significant.
