Chionin Kuromon (Black Gate)

A black gate in the style of a castle gate stands in Higashiyama, Kyoto, north of the Sanmon of Chion-in where the road toward Aoren-in meets Kayodo. The gate was moved to Chion-in from Fushimi Castle, and inside it a stone wall is piled in the manner of a castle. Fewer visitors come here than to the Sanmon, and the slope is gentle along the path that continues up toward the north gate. Depending on when you visit, the autumn leaves may not yet have fully turned.
