The Miedo hall is the main hall of Chion-in, the head temple of the Jodo sect, reached through the south gate of Maruyama Park in Kyoto. Built in 1639, it is a wooden structure designated a National Treasure and enshrines a statue of the monk Honen as its principal image. A service is held every morning, starting at 6:30 a.m. in winter and 5:30 a.m. in summer. Some areas, including the Hojo Garden, require a separate admission fee.
