Shishinden is the most formal hall inside the Kyoto Imperial Palace, where enthronement ceremonies and state rituals were held. The building was rebuilt in 1855 and follows Heian-period style with a hiwadabuki roof and white wooden pillars. During regular free openings, visitors view it from a distance, while special openings allow access closer to the steps. Inside are the emperor's takamikura and the empress's michodai.
