Itsukushima Shrine sits on an island in the middle of the pond in the southern part of Kyoto Gyoen, and is known as the Benten of the pond. Taira no Kiyomori enshrined the deity of Hiroshima's Itsukushima Shrine here for his mother Gionnyogo. A bridge crosses to the island, and the stone torii in the style of a ryobu torii is one of the Three Torii of Kyoto. The grounds are small.
