Churitsu Mae Gate stands on the west side of Karasuma-dori in Kyoto Gyoen, and it is a gate leading into the Kyoto Imperial Palace. A parking lot sits just inside the gate, a rest area is on the left, and it is the entrance closest to the Seiso Gate of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. During the Kinmon Incident of 1864, Choshu domain forces from Tenryu-ji broke through this gate and advanced to the front of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Entry is permitted only until 20:00.
