The Tokyo Air Raid Victims Memorial is a stone monument in Sumida Park, north of Asakusa Station and beside Kototoibashi. It commemorates the roughly 100,000 people who died in the March 10, 1945 air raid on Tokyo, and part of the railing from that time and a thousand folded paper cranes left as offerings are visible there. People fleeing from Asakusa and Mukojima crowded onto Kototoibashi and died, and remains temporarily buried nearby were after the war placed at the Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall. Can recycling facilities and trash are visible around the park, and homeless people are also noticeable.
