Dongbuk Gongsimdon sits between Changnyongmun Gate and Dongjangdae on the Hwaseong Fortress wall in Suwon. It is a gongsimdon, a hollow earthen rampart, built as a cylindrical brick structure with gun ports for watching and firing on the surrounding area. First built in 1796 and restored in 1976, it holds a spiral brick staircase shaped like a snail shell inside. From the top, the view takes in the Hwaseong fortress instead of Paldalsan.
