The Path of Philosophy is a roughly 2 km walking path along a canal that connects Ginkaku-ji and Nanzen-ji in Kyoto. Cherry trees, old neighborhoods, and cafes line the Meiji-era canal, and the path takes its name from the philosopher Nishida Kitaro, who walked here while thinking. Arriving before 10 a.m. means fewer people and a relatively flat route for walking at a slow pace. During cherry blossom season, the path is crowded.
