The Battle of Britain Monument is a sculpture on the Victoria Embankment along the Thames in London that honours the Royal Air Force and Allied pilots and aircrew who defended Britain in 1940. Detailed reliefs on the monument depict pilots, ground personnel and the fighter aircraft of the period, and the London Eye is visible from the site. British sculptor Paul Day made the work in 2005, and it was built with public donations. The names of about 3,000 participating pilots are engraved on it, and those commemorated include volunteers from the Commonwealth and occupied European countries as well as Britain.
