Guards Memorial stands at the edge of St James's Park in London, across from Horse Guards Parade. In front of a Portland stone obelisk are life-size bronze statues of five foot guards regiments: Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh, honouring the dead of the First World War. It was unveiled in 1926 and commemorates 14,000 dead from the First World War, and after the Second World War an inscription was added honouring the dead of 1939–1945. The bronze statues and stone are kept clean, making it a good place to pause and look.
