Nijo Castle in central Kyoto was built as the residence of the Tokugawa shogunate. Visitors walk through the wall paintings and Japanese garden of the Ninomaru Palace, along with the moat surrounding the castle's outer walls. Shoes must be removed inside the buildings, and photography is not allowed. Castle admission and building viewing tickets are separate, and some buildings require a separate reservation.
