The Museum of Modern History in Mokpo is located in Jungang-dong, in the former Mokpo branch building of the Oriental Development Company, constructed in 1920. Its exhibitions cover the exploitation and resistance in Mokpo during the Japanese colonial period. A ticket bought at Hall 1 allows entry to Hall 2 without an additional purchase; the first floor displays photographs from the port's opening period and the second floor displays materials on the resistance movement. The exhibition's scope is weighted toward Japanese colonial history, so it does not broadly cover other modern cultural heritage.
