The Historical Village of Hokkaido sits next to the Hokkaido Museum in Sapporo and is a large open-air museum with about 50 restored buildings from the Meiji era to the early Showa period. It is divided into city, farm, fishing and mountain village sections, and the interiors of the buildings can be viewed. Visitors can enter almost every building, but many require removing shoes, so shoes that are easy to take on and off are needed. Much of the walking is outdoors with little shade, so summer heat is strong.
