Asahiyama Memorial Park is a free observation park on a 137.5-meter hill near Moiwayama that looks down over central Sapporo. It was built in 1970 to mark the 100th anniversary of Sapporo's founding and has an observation plaza, stepped terraces, and a picnic area. From Sapporo Station it takes about 20 minutes by bus, then a 10-minute walk up a steep road past Aeon Mall. The park has a large free parking lot and restrooms, and in summer nights mosquitoes make long stays difficult while bear warning signs mean care is needed on the mountain paths.
