Kanesho is a freshwater eel restaurant in a narrow alley next to the Kyoto post office. It serves kinshidon, eel over rice topped with thinly sliced egg, and eel over rice with sesame, with each table's order cooked separately. The shop seats around 15, and booking through a hotel front desk before visiting is the recommended approach. Even with a reservation, cooking can take 30 to 50 minutes, and the alley waiting area is dark with no chairs.
