Motomachi Park sits at the top of the Motoyizaka slope in Hakodate and looks down over Hakodate Port and the city. The Old Hakodate Public Hall and Western-style wooden buildings stand in a row along the walk through the park. The area was long the administrative center of Hakodate, and the former Hakodate branch office of the Hokkaido government, built in Renaissance style about 100 years ago, still stands there. The path up to the park is steep, so crampons are needed in winter.
