Goryōkaku Tower

Goryokaku Tower stands in front of Goryokaku Park in Hakodate and looks down on the star-shaped fort. From the indoor observation deck, visitors can see Goryokaku Park and central Hakodate in all directions. Goryokaku was built in the late Edo period, and in 1869 it was the site where the new government army and the remaining shogunate forces fought. On weekends and during cherry blossom season, crowds gather and the waiting line grows long.
