San Giorgio Maggiore is a white marble church on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, across from Piazza San Marco, facing the main island of Venice. From the church's bell tower, visitors can see Piazza San Marco, the Doge's Palace, and the Salute church, and an elevator goes to the top. Entry to the church is free, bell tower tickets are bought on site, and visitors cross from the main island by vaporetto. On cloudy days, it is difficult to see the main island's panorama and the sunset.
