Jokanji is a Buddhist temple near Minowa Station on the Tokyo Hibiya Line, dedicated to the women of Shin-Yoshiwara. It was founded in 1655, and after the 1855 Ansei earthquake the bodies of these women were buried here, giving the temple the nickname "Throw-in Temple." The grounds include the Shin-Yoshiwara memorial tower, the grave of the woman Wakamura, and a monument to the poetry of Yanai Nagai. The burial area is small, with densely packed gravestones and narrow paths.
