Kokyo Higashi Gyoen is a garden park in central Tokyo that opens part of the area where Japan's imperial family actually lives, on the east side of the Imperial Palace. Moats, wide lawns, and the honmaru remains of Edo Castle are still there, so you can walk quietly and see the old stone walls. There is no admission fee, and a brief bag check takes place at the entrance. No old buildings remain.
