Pyodaemun

The main wooden gate sits just south of Osaka Tenmangu, next to the Tenjinbashisuji 1-chome shopping street. A large sacred rope and a compass board marked with the cardinal directions and the twelve zodiac signs hang from its ceiling. During Tenjin Matsuri it is a main point where visitors gather, and the area in front of the gate is used for photos and as a meeting spot. Crowds during the festival make the space feel cramped.
