A large green apple sculpture by Tadao Ando stands at the entrance of the Children's Book Forest in Nakanoshima, Osaka. It represents "eternal youth," a spirit that holds hope even when unripe and sour, and its yellow-green color makes it visible from across the river. Inside the library are about 18,000 volumes, including picture books, children's books, and literary works, and the apple has an uneven surface made of flat faces. When the library is closed, it is difficult to see the sculpture in full from the front.
