Namsan Bongsudae is a restored Joseon-era beacon site on the way to the top of Namsan, just before the summit from the Namsan N Tower plaza and the cable car. It was a smoke-signal station that relayed emergencies from the provinces to the royal palace, and a changing-of-the-guard ceremony for the beacon keepers is reenacted there. A staircase behind reinforced glass leads up to the top of the beacon and back down. From the surrounding observation deck, visitors can look toward the Cheong Wa Dae direction over downtown Seoul, and the site draws a steady stream of visitors.
