Hwangudan (Wongudan) is a historic site of the Korean Empire, located between Seoul Plaza, Euljiro Station, and the Chosun Hotel. In 1897, Gojong performed a rite to heaven and held his coronation as emperor of the Korean Empire there. The site originally held the Hwangudan altar, Hwanggungu, and the east and west auxiliary shrines, but today only some structures including Hwanggungu remain. The entrance is under construction, so visitors must enter by another path.
