Derinkuyu Underground City in Cappadocia is a site that Christians built during the Roman era to escape religious persecution. Visitors descend through multiple underground levels, passing through maze-like corridors and wide spaces along the way. The interior is dark and cool, and when it is crowded you walk by following the person ahead. The corridor ceilings are low, so tall or large visitors have to crouch to move through.
