Hiire Mitsui is an izakaya on the fifth floor of Shinjuku Palette at the west exit of Shinjuku Station, serving charcoal-grilled fish, oden, and pot rice. Fish are skewered upright over a hearth inside the kozara-style counter and grilled directly over the fire, and salted mackerel and oden are ordered alongside. The open kitchen inside the building connected to Shinjuku Station lets diners watch the charcoal grilling. On weekends and holidays, many people wait before opening, so reservations are required.
