Cafe Aliya serves French toast and brunch in the basement of an old building at the Shinjuku 3-chome intersection in Tokyo. Thick toast soaks up plenty of egg, giving it a lightly crisp outside and a soft interior, and the weekday set comes with two slices of French toast and a choice of coffee or tea. On a weekday daytime visit the wait was 5 to 10 minutes, and at 3:30 p.m. it was about 5 minutes, with orders placed on a web page via QR code. Seats are close together, which makes it uncomfortable to sit for long.
