Shinjuku Golden Gai is an alley of small bars set among old buildings in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Each bar seats around ten people, and customers drink beer or liquor inside. Most bars do not open during the day, so the alley is quiet then, while at night it fills with customers, most of them foreign visitors. Seats inside are narrow enough for shoulders to touch, and many bars allow smoking and accept cash only.
