The George Washington Statue is an equestrian bronze in New York's Union Square Park, on the south side, visible when entering the park from 14th Street. Henry Kirke Brown made the statue, which was erected in 1856 to commemorate the British withdrawal. A greenmarket sets up around the park, and on some days Indian, Mexican, and Italian food stalls line the area. Even at midday on weekends, seats and personal space remain available for sitting in the park.
