Huay Tueng Thao Reservoir is a man-made lake outside Chiang Mai with cafes and restaurants along the shore. People commonly eat or drink in bungalows on the water and ride motorbikes around the perimeter. Arriving early means fewer people, and driving a full loop around the lake takes about 10 minutes. In the rice fields to the north there are straw sculptures of King Kong and animals, and foreign visitors pay an entrance fee.
