Toji (Kyoogokokuji) is a Shingon Buddhist temple founded in 796, a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station. It holds Japan's tallest wooden five-story pagoda, along with the Kondo and Kodo halls that house Buddhist statues. Night illuminations are held during spring cherry blossom season and autumn foliage season. Photographs of the Buddhist statues are not allowed.
