Daikokuya Ramen sits in a residential neighborhood near the airport on the road to Mount Aso, in Kikuyo, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto. It is an old establishment serving tonkotsu ramen and jjamppong. The ramen has a pork bone broth that is neither salty nor greasy, with thin noodles, chashu, wood ear mushrooms, green onions, and seaweed, and local customers sometimes order fried rice alongside it. Two elderly owners run the place, which has 10 counter seats, one two-person table, and one four-person table, and a wait forms at lunchtime.
