Seikatei is a wooden villa near Hokkaido University where Emperor Meiji rested. Built in 1880 in Kaitakuen, Sapporo's first park, it combines Japanese tatami rooms and Western-style rooms side by side. Entry is free, visitors sign a guestbook and remove their shoes, and only two rooms are open to the public. The building was not designed for cold weather, so the interior is cold in winter.
