Biwonddeokjip is a handmade rice cake shop in Seoul that continues Joseon court rice cake traditions. Its duteoptteok has nuts and pine nuts with mild yuja and cinnamon notes, while its jatsseolgi is crumbly, soft, and chewy. Opened in 1949, the shop makes rice cakes without machines using methods passed down from court lady Han Hee-sun, and by 1 p.m. almost no rice cakes are left. Prices are on the high side.
