The Seoul Museum of History covers the city from the Joseon period to the present and sits next to Gyeonghuigung. Its exhibitions trace Seoul's past and present, with modern and contemporary history displays shown alongside special exhibitions. Admission is free, and the number of exhibits makes it worth going through slowly. Modern and contemporary history takes up a larger share than the full span of Seoul's history, which is a shortcoming.
