Gwanghwamun is the south gate and main gate of Gyeongbokgung, the palace where kings of the Joseon dynasty entered and exited, and it stands near Gwanghwamun Plaza in Seoul. The gate has a high stone base with a two-story pavilion on top, set among modern office buildings. The royal guard changing ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Heungnyemun Plaza, is not held on Tuesdays, and can be watched for free. It is a symbol of Seoul with historical significance.
