Jipokjae is a Chinese-style hall in the northern part of Gyeongbokgung, west of Geoncheonggung, that served as King Gojong's study and a reception room for foreign envoys. Palwoojeong and Hyeopgildang flank Jipokjae and are connected to it by corridors, and the brick walls and glass windows show both Chinese style and the new architectural style of the time. It was moved in 1891 from a detached building of Hamnyeongjeon in Changdeokgung and used as a study, with books kept inside. During periods when the interior is not open, the inside of the building cannot be seen.
