Donggwanwangmyo (Dongmyo) is a shrine in Seoul that honors Gwanu, a general of the Chinese state of Shu. The name Donggwanwangmyo means a royal shrine to Gwanu located in the eastern part of Seoul, and Gwanwang is an honorific title for Gwanu. It was built in 1601 at the request of Ming China, which had assisted Joseon during the Imjin War, and the main hall enshrining Gwanu is the central building inside. The shrine sits in the middle of Dongmyo Market, and the surrounding area is very crowded.
