Kitakaro Sapporo Honkan Cafe

Kitakaro is a dessert cafe near the former Hokkaido Government Office Building in Sapporo, serving shu cream baumkuchen, cakes, soft-serve ice cream and drinks. The Sapporo main branch opened in 2016 inside an old library building from 1926 that Tadao Ando renovated, with a gift and takeout shop on the first floor and the cafe on the second. The second-floor cafe opens at 11 a.m., and guests write their name, meal type and party size in a ledger at the entrance, then are called when their turn comes. Seats are not self-selected even when tables are empty, and table clearing and turnover are slow.
