Tanaka Shoshin-an is a Kyoto-style kaiseki restaurant in Gion. The meal proceeds through kelp-cured fish, a soup with cherry tree leaves, grilled fish with eel rice, and crisp fried dishes. An elderly couple runs the place: the husband cooks behind the counter while the wife greets guests and talks with them. It sits deep in a narrow alley, so the entrance is hard to find on a first visit.
