Kikunoi Honten is a ryotei in Kodaiji, Higashiyama, Kyoto, surrounded by greenery, that serves traditional kaiseki. Its courses include raw fish and seasonal ingredients, with attention to the pairing of ingredients and broth and to how dishes match their vessels. It opened in 1912, the first year of the Taisho era, and all seats are private rooms with views of a small garden and flowing water. The courses and service are attentive, but the prices are very high for enjoying the food and the space.
