Yonggungsa Temple

Ryuguji is a small temple in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, within a five-minute walk of Gion Station and across from Tochoji. Its name comes from a legend that a mermaid caught by a Hakata fisherman was buried there. The temple grounds are sometimes closed, making it hard to see the Buddhist statues and the interior, and a notice directs visitors to ask at the office. No Korean-language guidance is available, so the mermaid legend is difficult to understand on site.
