A statue of an ancient sumo wrestler stands to the right of the main hall at Sumiyoshi Shrine in Fukuoka. The figure has a large build and a strong gaze, and the character for "strength" is carved into its palm. The statue was erected as a symbol of the deep connection between Sumiyoshi Shrine and sumo. Visitors touch the palm directly to receive strength.
