Shofukuji is near Hakata Station and Gion Station in Fukuoka. It was founded in 1195 and is the first Zen temple in Japan. The grounds hold old wooden halls, a bell tower, a small pond, and a Japanese garden, with plenty of tree shade for quiet walking. The building designated as a national treasure cannot be entered, and visitors spend about 5 to 10 minutes around the entrance.
