Myorakuji is a Rinzai Zen temple of the Daitokuji school in Gokushomachi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka. Founded in 1316, it originally stood on the shore of Hakata Bay before being moved, and it served as lodging for envoys from the Yuan, Ming, and Joseon courts. A stele marking the transmission of Uiro stands at the end of a long corridor in the grounds, and zazen sessions and spring and autumn tea gatherings are held there. During nighttime illumination events the grounds are crowded and the building's structure makes it easy to misstep, so watch your footing.
