Hakata Gion Yamakasa

Hakata Gion Yamakasa is a traditional festival held around Kushida Shrine and the streets of Hakata. From July 1 to 15, decorated floats over 10 meters tall are displayed and events are held in which participants carry and run with the floats. The rehearsal on the 13th starts around 4:30 p.m., the Tuiyama on the 15th begins before 5 a.m., and the decorated floats in the Kushida Shrine grounds are open year-round. The daytime summer rehearsals are hard on account of the heat.
