Pyoatam is a memorial park in Dongcheon-dong, Gyeongju. In 69 BCE, the six village chiefs of Silla gathered here for a council and decided to found the nation. A memorial stele was erected in 1806, and Pyoatamjae was built in 1925, after which a rite has been held every March. The name Pyoatam means bak-bawi or bright rock, and the birth legend of Yi Alpyeong, the founder of the Gyeongju Yi clan, is passed down here.
