Jeongdong Simgok Badabuchae-gil is a coastal hiking course along the East Sea in the Jeongdongjin area of Gangneung, following a boardwalk over rocks and a steel path. The name comes from Buchae-kkeut, the old name for Jeongdongjin, and the route passes coastal terraces and oddly shaped rocks formed by tectonic movement 2.5 million years ago. Walking the course means going up and down stairs past the horizon, waves, and a boardwalk over the sea, and the Simgok parking lot is free. The course is long, so returning after a one-way walk is awkward by car and there is no shuttle.
